She's cool, quick-witted, and partial to plastic bags.
But most importantly, she works at RESAAS.
This is Meet The Team - a series that'll get you up close and personal with those who work inside the walls of 55 Water Street. Even the dogs.
We asked Ayelen five questions, each one scientifically designed to give you the most well-rounded view of this human marketing machine.
1. If you master any skill, what would it be?
"In my personal life, I would master the skill of patience. There's not enough patience and understanding and I fall short of it all the time. At work, I would master the skill of writing! You can do so much through effective writing (selling, pitching an idea, persuading). I recently got into conversion copywriting so that's in my next-to-master list."
2. What's one of your all-time favourite YouTube videos?
"I am obsessed with the song "Born to Run" by Bruce Springsteen! It so timeless. I hear it and I'm instantly invigorated! Even though it was a 'national' song of hope in the 80s, it rings so true to this day. It talks about striving to make it in life, along someone you love, and how that ride is not always easy. Because that's the raw truth. To me he is a lyrical genius!
"Oh, someday, I don't know when
we're gonna get to that place
Where we really wanna go
and we'll walk in the sun
But till then (..) like us
baby we were born to run"
I also love Steve Job's video! It talks about how the most successful brands don't focus on features - rather the absence of features and benefits. If you look at Nike, for example, they honor great athletes. And they honor great athletics. That's who they are and that's what they're about. That's what inspired him when he endeavoured to rebrand Apple with the "Think Different" campaign. I resort to this when I'm trying something new in Marketing."
3. Some advice for 'past Ayelen':
"Oh boy! A million things. But I would say that the top three things would be:
- Assertiveness is different than being aggressive. I think often times women can confuse the two - I know I did. I've learned assertiveness is not being mean or rude, just standing your ground.
- "When you know better, you do better." Be kind to yourself. You live and learn, right?
- Things work together for the good."
4. Your biggest fear...
"Snakes!! I hate them! They're ugly, grosse, conniving. That's the quick answer. The longer answer is losing someone I love without them knowing how loved they were."
5. What's your favourite part about working at RESAAS?
"My favorite part about working at RESAAS is seeing how real estate agents are bringing tech into their work. It's energizing to see them challenge themselves and continue to push the envelope in the real estate industry. It encourages me to do the same. Plus, some of the most exciting people are agents! They're so eager when you talk to them, so naturally, their energy is contagious. That's my favorite part about working at RESAAS. And sitting next to you of course! You remind me to be patient every day. You're cool as a cat.
Thanks for featuring me, Braden!"
