5 tips for running a winning contest
Ready to run a contest for your real estate business? Let’s go!
Here are 5 tips to run a winning contest that will be a big win for your business:
1. Make a game plan
The first step to success is a solid game plan.
Running a contest requires planning so that you can ensure that you’re not caught off guard at any point during the contest duration and that you are ready for anything. Be sure to take the time to sit down and seriously consider various aspects of the contest that you intend to run. For example:
- Who is your target audience?
- Who is eligible to win the prize that you are planning on giving away?
- How long will your contest run for?
- What type of contest are you running? (Photo contest, trivia, enter to win?)
- What is the goal of your contest? (Increase social media following? Increase traffic to your blog?)
- What platform will you host this contest on? (In-person? Social media?)
Once you have figured out the nitty-gritty of your contest, be sure to come up with some rules and regulations, and be sure that you comply with other regulations, such as if you are hosting your contest on Facebook.
2. Utilize your social media channels
One of the great perks of running a contest is that you can generate new leads. With your contest, you can direct these new leads to your various social media channels so as to increase your social media following. This helps to build up your reputation in the online world!
An idea for a contest that can help to drive more traffic to your channels could be an incentivized following or sharing contest. For example, entrants can gain extra entries into your contest by following your real estate business on Instagram or Twitter or liking your business page on Facebook.
Once you have all these fans following your social media channels, you can then continue to keep them hooked with some valuable content so that they keep coming back.
3. Link it back to the community
As a REALTOR®, you know first hand that strong and nurtured relationships with your clients are key, as they are the ones to help you to sustain your real estate business and provide you with new leads through referrals and word of mouth. Show that you are well-connected to the community that you work in by making your contest community-related!
By hosting a contest that is community-related, you can engage with the locals and gain new leads in your area, and further establish yourself as a community expert. This can be done by way of a local trivia contest, or partnering with a local business for a giveaway.
4. Partner with partners
Speaking of partnerships, what better way to build up community relationships and contest exposure than by partnering with another business? Not only will this help you to build up your community credibility, but you can also increase your exposure with your partnership.
These partners can be local businesses that you can ask to donate a prize to your contest. In this way, you are promoting their business to your clients and leads, and they can promote your real estate business to their clients. It’s a win-win for everyone!
5. Make your contest mobile-friendly
Last but not least, be sure that you’re keeping up with the times and ensure your contest is mobile-friendly!
With more than half of the world’s web traffic now coming from mobile phones, not having a contest that is optimized for mobile could be a deadly mistake. By having a contest page that is responsive on mobile, potential entrants can get all the necessary information that they need while on the go and right in the moment, instead of putting it off until they have access to a desktop computer. This ensures that you are capturing entrants - and potential leads - early.
So, how do you run a successful contest?
Here is a handy checklist that you can use to refer back to when you are ready to run your next contest for your real estate business:
Make a game plan
Utilize your social media channels
Link it back to the community
Partner with partners
Make sure your contest is mobile-friendly
Give these tips a try, and best of luck in running your own winning contests!
