- Episode 1 -
Did you ever play that game when you were young, where you started off telling someone something and they were to tell the next person, and the next person, and so on and so on until what you said made it all the way around the circle, and the last person repeated it out loud??
Was what the last person said ever correct?
Usually it was nowhere near what the original started out as!
That’s a lot like social media today. Only, the power of social media has perfected the final result - what starts off is usually what ends up being circulated.
I never was a fan of social media.
In fact, I kicked and screamed to not have a Facebook page – let alone a personal one AND a business one – but something happened one day that changed that thought forever…
I joined the social media giant in December of 2012, and posted off and on for the next few months. In August of 2013, I attended the Florida Association of REALTORS® convention in Orlando where the keynote speakers were the famous HGTV “Property Brothers”.
I, of course, took the opportunity to post that to my business page, saying that I saw them at the conference.
That post reached 132 people within minutes.
The next day, I got a call from someone in NYC, whose friend had shared my post. The person was looking for a second home in South Florida, and because of that post was able to get my information. When I asked why they chose me, they confirmed:
“We saw that you were with the Property Brothers and we never miss an episode of them! So we figured you were the right agent for us.”
They ended up buying a condo, and we have been great friends as well as clients who have referred others to me ever since!
Keeping your posts interesting, yet informative for all readers to share, is an ongoing goal of mine. Think out of the box with your content, because this is what will set you apart from the rest.
Perhaps someday I can repay the favor to the Property Brothers, and they will get a deal because “they met ME that one day in August of 2013….”
