Wouldn’t that be a nice office perk, to head south for the winter and work remotely from a house on the beach with your team?
Spark thinks so.
Officially launched in 2013, Spark helps land developers manage their entire sales process - including lead capture, email marketing, tracking metrics, sales and contracts. They are a part of the VC-backed accelerator program called Highline (located on Hastings), which means that they share a common space with several other ambitious startups.
According to Simeon Garratt, CEO, this environment has its pros and cons.
A major benefit, however, is the chance to network with other emerging execs and learn from each other’s experience.
With a team of only 6, the office culture is what you might call flexible.
Along with the aforementioned team travels, they make sure to grab lunches and dinners together, celebrate birthdays and other milestone occasions, as well as provide free drinks to help alleviate the familiar startup stress.
However, they also like to take a step back once a week and view things from a higher level.
‘Fresh Fridays’ are a half-day of work and a half-day of outside-the-box brainstorming between all team members. It’s a chance to talk about what works, what doesn’t, and what potential direction can be taken to improve the product.
Nothing is ruled out.
In fact, this fearless approach to change has been apparent since the very outset.
Spark is the end result of multiple iterations, each one based on valuable feedback from their end users. They’ve discovered that the best way to close a lead is to open up their mind.
And it’s worked!
Flexible in both product and culture, they’re the epitome of how a young startup can achieve success when facing a competitive marketplace.
...And if they get stuck?
Well, then they can just let Peanut the Super-Dog take the reins while they go and soak up some inspiration from the Californian sun.
