There are tons of reasons why blogging and creating content is a good idea for real estate agents. This article is not to explain why blogging and creating content is a good idea for real estate agents though.
There are many real estate industry professionals who blog and create content but still don’t see much success. There are lots of articles on the internet that provide some great tips for success for in social media for real estate professionals.
Create Epic Real Estate Content
To succeed with online content in real estate, the first step to being successful is creating epic content. If you don’t have your own epic content then you have no way to succeed in online content, obviously.
What is epic content?
That depends on who you’re asking.
On my site, Rochester’s Real Estate Blog, I write at least one epic piece of content each week. If you have checked out any of my articles, I do not write content just to write content. I attempt to be extremely thorough with the topic I’m covering for the week. The majority of my weekly articles are around 2,000 words or more, which is important for many reasons including the reality that longer articles tend to get more shares and interaction.
Now it’s important that you don’t write articles with a bunch of what I call “Fluff.” Articles with a bunch of “Fluff” are written with the primary purpose of keyword stacking and length in mind, not educating your website’s audience. I’d much rather read an article that is only 1,000 words but filled with useful information than I would an article that is 3,000 words but useless information.
Build An Online Audience
Once you’ve figured out how to create some epic real estate content, it’s important that you have an audience to share it with and also an audience who will want to share your epic content. Building an online audience is difficult. If you’re planning on writing an article and believe that it will magically go viral, think again.
The biggest suggestion I can make when it comes to building an audience is to find a solid group of the real estate professionals who are having success on social media. I also recommend only starting with one or two social media sites. If you decide to choose Twitter and Google Plus, a simple search for top real estate professionals on Twitter will provide some excellent resources of those who understand online content and real estate!
Once you have found the industry leaders, it’s now time to start interacting with them. Start by sharing their content and commenting on their articles. Real estate professionals who are on social media love nothing more than their content being shared. If you’re able to build relationships with these industry leaders, it’s likely they will be open and willing to sharing their advice.
Last December I wrote an article where I provided a recap of the top real estate blog articles from 2014. This article was a great stepping stone in building relationships with many of the real estate professionals who I included in the article. Many of these top real estate bloggers now consistently include my content in the articles they’re writing, which is great for improving the placement in search engine results.
Once you have created some epic real estate content and have built an online audience, the next step to being successful in online content for real estate is knowing how to curate content. This is where most real estate agents fail in social media. Knowing how to properly promote real estate content is critical to success.
One of the best ways to curate your real estate content is by utilizing content curation websites. There are tons of them out there that are very user-friendly and that don’t take a ton of time to master. Some of the top content curation sites out there include Storify, Bundlr, Scoop.it, List.ly, Quora, and Tumblr. For example, check out this Bundlr collection that I created that provides some great resources for success on social media for real estate. This collection has received nearly 20,000 views!
Content curation is important because it not only creates additional exposure for your real estate content but it also helps show others that you’re a figurehead in the real estate industry or whatever topic you may be writing about.
How To Know If You’re Doing It Right
One of the most identifiable signs that you’re doing online content marketing correctly for real estate is that you actually have interaction with others in your target audience. When you post one of your real estate articles, are others sharing it or interacting with you? If the answer is no, you’re doing something wrong. The most likely reason is because you’re not interacting with others and sharing their content.
Another great sign to know whether or not your online content marketing efforts are working is your placement on search engines. For example, let’s say you wrote a guide about one of your local real estate communities. If you’re using content marketing properly, you should be able to get the guide in a competitive position on page 1 or 2.
A search for Top Webster, NY Realtors on Google will result in my real estate guide to Webster, NY coming up as one of the top 2 or 3 results. I recommend using the webmaster tools that Google provides as it can show where your site ranks for specific search terms.
Online content marketing for real estate can be extremely powerful if it’s used properly. It can also create a negative effect if done improperly. Always remember, anything you publish online should be top notch as you never know when a potential buyer or seller is reading what you’ve written.
