- The Introduction -
After a lifetime of every job imaginable, from running the front desk of a hotel, to catering banquets and planning events, to programming computers and training people on them, then jumping into finance and banking because that was a “very stable industry”, I finally followed my heart and found my true passion with a career in real estate!
I joined this outrageous industry at the height of the bubble that was just about to burst. Everyone thought I was crazy to even try to sell anything when no one was able to buy.
I will never forget the first day of real estate school – the instructor walked in the door, looked at all the bewildered yet anxious faces of the “soon to be agents” and said, “Are you sure you want to do this? Have none of you heard the news lately?”
While everyone in the room looked confused, I took it as a sign – you give me a challenge and I will conquer it – what could be so hard with selling someone a home?
My thought is and always has been that real estate transactions should be positive experiences. You may be buying a dream, or changing a lifestyle. It might be your first home together, your tenth house for sale or the first apartment on your own.
Regardless of your situation, having a real estate professional that can walk you through all of the details, guide you in the right direction, provide patience and positive insight, and remain “your cheerleader” throughout the entire process, will give you the peace of mind not often found today in any situation.
Like all “newbies”, I remember when I looked at my license for the first time and the glorified vision of a REALTOR® soon filled my head – the person that drove the fancy car, wore the designer clothes, talked with such authority and went home with the big checks.
Years later I’m still driving my Honda and wearing my capri pants with pockets to carry all my stuff. I may know what I’m talking about, but the rules always change so you have to be at the top of your game at all times.
...As for those big checks?
Well, that’s for another article down the road!
